Publicity Blurb: Shakespeare's most impressive work is a dark and disturbing piece which is guaranteed to enthrall the audience.
Proposal Blurb: Widely viewed as one of the most impressive works of art in the English literary canon, Macbeth is a horrifying examination of ambition foully played for, and the ensuing consequences to both individual and collective. Macbeth, a Scottish nobleman fresh from battle, is confronted by a tempting prophecy of that which might be his; sovereignty of the very nation. Initially uncertain whether or not this knowledge should be acted upon, he is spurred on by his wife, and together they perpetrate a dishonourable and unnatural atrocity, the aftershocks of which prove to be indiscriminately destructive. As events take on a momentum of their own, these self-crowned monarchs begin to be taught their folly, and realise that there is a cost when one, through supernatural means, 'dares more than may become a man'. The lighting and set of this proposed production will reflect the gradual downfall of Scotland under Macbeth, with plans for both drooping material and increasingly livid lighting illustrating the rotting cadaver the environment gradually becomes under his rule. Due to the dearth of female parts within the show, around half of the principal roles shall be played by women.
