Blurbs
Publicity Blurb: The dawn was beginning to break when Mowgli went down the hillside alone, to meet those mysterious things that are called men.
Proposal Blurb: Rudyard Kipling's beloved children's classic tells of a boy hunted by a man-eating tiger before being rescued and raised by a wolf pack. From here he encounters a tribe of psychotic monkeys, a jackal infected by madness and a thirty foot long python with hypnotic powers. This new adaptation reveals the darker aspects of Kipling's novel, his fast paced action combined with his exquisite language. Our major focus will be on animal physicality in rehearsals capturing the aggressive, savage movements of beasts. All characters are exciting allowing for detailed character work to bring out their frightening qualities. Our aim is to transform Bedlam Theatre into the deep heart of the jungle with a moveable set which combines fake plants and foliage with vibrant fabrics. As well as this we will also suspend a canopy of fabric, interwoven with plants, above the entire stage and auditorium. The project will provide opportunities on all sides of production from stage combat coordination to make-up, set building and costuming. The ensemble cast contains a majority of non gender specific roles providing an opportunity for all actors. The Jungle Book would be a visually stunning, energetic and captivating production bringing to the stage this thrilling adventure.
